Mrs. Cassreino uses lengthy experience to help Bruins

Pam Vance Cassreino is a longtime, 32-year veteran educator who is in her fifth year at St. Joseph Catholic School, where she teaches Learning Strategies and the SALT Program, Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques.

Education is a passion for Cassreino, who began her career in 1991 as a kindergarten assistant teacher in Madison County public schools. Cassreino moved to Jackson Public Schools the following year to teach Reading Recovery – which she did through spring 1996.

After leaving Jackson Public Schools, Cassreino’s teaching career saw her spend two years at Hudspeth Regional Center working with adult clients there. Other stops in her education career included Assisi Early Learning Center in 1998; Madison County Public Schools in 1999; Meridian Public Schools in 2001; Hattiesburg Public Schools in 2005; St. Margaret Mary Catholic School in Slidell, La., in 2009; and Canton Public Schools in 2010. All of her stops saw her work with elementary-aged students.

In 2019, Cassreino joined St. Joe where she helped shape and teach students enrolled in Learning Strategies and students in the SALT Program. SALT students are not on the traditional diploma track, but participate in all grade level classes with their peers.

Cassreino, 54, earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Mississippi College in 1991. She earned a master’s degree in Education from MC in 1995. And she earned a master’s degree in Exceptional Education from Jackson State University in 1998. She is licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Education and the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools to teach special education through high school.

Cassreino is married to Terry R. Cassreino, who teaches print and broadcast journalism at St. Joe and also serves as the school’s communications director. They have two children, Camryn, a freshman this fall at Mississippi College, and Matthew, a sophomore this fall at St. Joe. They attend St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gluckstadt.
