Don't miss the annual “Gifts of
the Season” Christmas concert
MADISON, Miss. (Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017) – Christmas music will fill the St. Joseph Catholic School Fine Arts auditorium when the school stages its annual, popular holiday concert “Gifts of the Season” on Sunday, Dec. 10.
The program, a production of the St. Joseph Catholic School Fine Arts Department, is a Christmas celebration showcasing the talents of the school’s instrumental music, visual arts and choral students. Curtain is 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10; tickets are $10 each.
“This is one of my favorite events every year,” said Ronnie Russell, the St. Joseph band director and chairman of the Fine Arts Department. “Our students have been rehearsing and preparing for this event for weeks.
“Many people look forward to the event every year,” he said. “’Gifts of the Season’ regularly attracts one of our largest crowds. St. Joe families, alumni and friends come from all over the metro area. I can’t think of a better way to get in the Christmas spirit.”
St. Joseph Catholic School, 308 New Mannsdale Road in Madison about a mile west of the Interstate 55-Mississippi 463 Exit, offers seventh- through 12th-grade education with a rigorous college prep curriculum grounded in the teachings of the Catholic church.
St. Joseph, founded in 1870, is accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education and AdvancED. The school serves students in the Greater Jackson area; Niche.com named St. Joe the state’s Best Catholic High School in 2016 and again in 2017.
“Gifts of the Season” will feature student musicians performing traditional Christmas favorites. Choral students under the direction of Mr. Michael Hrivnak will perform. And visual art students will sell hand-crafted Christmas ornaments created under the guidance of Mrs. Lou Ann Turner.
“Gifts of the Season” is just one of several high-profile events the Fine Arts Department will produce this school year. Last month, students staged the fall play “Peter and the Starcatcher”; next spring they will stage the Broadway musical “Bye Bye Birdie.”
“Our Fine Arts program is second-to-none in the Jackson area,” said Principal Dena Kinsey.
“I am so proud of our talented student musicians, singers and artists,” she said. “These students put a lot of time and effort into their work. It’s just one more example of how we provide students with a well-rounded education you won’t find anywhere else.”
