St. Joseph Catholic School's Fine Arts Program

Welcome to the St. Joseph Catholic School Fine Arts Program.

The program is headquartered in the school's Fine Arts Building where you will find the band room, the choral music rooms, a fully equipped pottery studio, visual arts classrooms, a theatrical design workshop, two dressing rooms and a state-of-the-art auditorium that seats 502 people.

The Fine Arts Department boasts a group of talented, experienced and dedicated educators who provide guidance and training to all students.

Each school year, the Fine Arts Department presents two outstanding theatrical productions: a drama or comedy every fall and a major musical in the spring. The Bruin band performs two major concerts each year: the wildly popular "Gifts of the Season" Christmas concert and the year-end spring concert. In addition to these concerts you can hear the band on Friday nights during football season, during Mass and in the orchestra pit as they perform during the spring musical. The choral program features the voices of amazing young singers who participate at various functions throughout the school year. The art program showcases student art projects throughout the school and features a Senior Art Show at the end of the year.

The student media program finds St. Joe students creating the school yearbook, The Shield, and producing several video shows that include the nationally recognized and award-winning "Bruin News Now" weekly video newscast; a live monthly sports talk show "Bruin Talk Live" webcast from Sal & Mookie's Madison; and live streaming video coverage of Bruin football and basketball. "Bruin News Now" is in its 11th season. The student-produced newscast was named Mississippi's Newscast of the Year for 2025 by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association and Best News Show by the 2025 Writing, Visuals and Multimedia Contest sponsored by Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists.

The school is blessed with a volunteer organization known as the Fine Arts Collective, through which parents and other volunteers offer their time and talent to enrich the program. Over the years, supporters have contributed to the design and construction of the production sets, gathered props, designed production programs, decorated the auditorium, sold event tickets and baked and sold concessions. Supporters have provided lights, microphones, band instruments, pottery implements, digital pianos and ancillary equipment for the school’s new piano lab -- just to name a few.
