Show your support of Catholic education on #iGiveCatholic Giving Day

MADISON (Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016) – The Catholic Diocese of Jackson will join five other dioceses in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas on Nov. 29 for the second annual online giving day called #iGiveCatholic.

Besides the Jackson Diocese, others participating include the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Catholic Dioceses of Biloxi; Baton Rouge; Houma-Thibodaux, La.; and Austin, Texas. The event is designed to rally the Catholic community on #GivingTuesday, also Nov. 29.

“Money raised this day will go to specific Catholic parishes, schools or ministries according to the donor’s wishes,” Saint Joseph Catholic School Principal Doug Jones said. “You can designate a cash gift specifically to our school and support the mission of Catholic education.”

The Catholic Foundation for the Archdiocese of New Orleans launched the #iGiveCatholic campaign in 2015. That event raised $1.36 million in a 24-hour period – transforming online giving for parishes, schools, ministries and nonprofits.

More than 300 Catholic parishes, schools and nonprofits in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas plan to participate in #iGiveCatholic this year. The event allows people to give back to Catholic institutions on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

#iGiveCatholic will take place from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, with donations accepted online at iGiveCatholic.org. If you are interested in giving to Saint Joseph Catholic School, you can make that designation at the time you donate.

The minimum donation is $25. #iGiveCatholic has set a goal of collecting and delivering a total of $1.5 million this year to Catholic parishes, schools, ministries and nonprofits during the 24-hour fundraising period.

Saint Joseph Catholic School, in Madison about a mile west of the Interstate 55 and Mississippi 463 exit, offers seventh- through 12th-grade education with a rigorous college prep curriculum grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Saint Joseph, founded in 1870, is accredited by the Mississippi Department of Education and AdvancED.

Building on last year’s successful campaign, the #iGiveCatholic leadership is bringing back prize competitions and adding new features such as advance day giving.

Advance giving allows donors to schedule a gift beginning Friday, Nov. 18, through iGiveCatholic.org , the year-round online giving website. The scheduled donations will process on Tuesday, Nov. 29, during the #iGiveCatholic Giving Day.

#iGiveCatholic also will award $24,000 in prizes to participating parishes, schools and organizations “raffle-style”; every hour a participating group will be chosen to receive $1,000. Prizes are made possible by generous partners including Whitney Bank – which is returning as presenting sponsor.

“As the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays approach, this is a perfect way to show your appreciation for the many gifts and blessings of strong Catholic education,” Jones said. “Please keep Saint Joseph in mind. Your gift will help us make a great school even better.”

About #iGiveCatholic

#iGiveCatholic is an online giving event that provides our parishes, schools, ministries, and not-for-profits affiliated with the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Diocese of Austin, Diocese of Baton Rouge, Diocese of Biloxi, Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, and Diocese of Jackson the opportunity to connect with their current donors and establish relationships with new donors.  The goal of #iGiveCatholic is to inspire the Catholic community to come together as faithful stewards and to “Give Catholic” on #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving back.

About The Diocese of Jackson

The Diocese of Jackson has its origins in the establishment of the Diocese of Natchez by Pope Gregory XVI on July 28, 1837. Bishop John Joseph Chanche, SS, arrived four years later in May 1841 as the first bishop. There was no church building and only a handful of missionary priests to welcome him. From that humble beginning 175 years ago, the Diocese of Jackson has grown into a region that encompasses 65 of the state’s 82 counties. It is home to 75 parishes, 28 missions, and some 48,000 registered Catholics. Today, led by Bishop Joseph Kopacz, we celebrate the accomplishments of the people who have built the Diocese and who remain focused on the great gift and mystery of the Holy Eucharist.
