Title: The History of the Catholic Church and Christian Justice
Grade: 11 Semester: Full Year Course Credit: 1 Prerequisite: Religion 10 Texts: The Church: Our Story of Catholic Tradition, Mission,and Practice (Ave Maria Press) Living Justice and Peace (St. Mary's Press) This course teaches the student about the history of the Roman Catholic Church. This is accomplished in conjuction with the Catholic cathechism, as presented in the student textbook, and it is a systematic presentation of faith and morality. This course educates the student not only in the two-thousand year history of the Church, but it also serves as a Catholic guide of morality as presented through the teachings of Scripture, the living Tradition of the Church, as it is interpreted by the magisterium, and the spiritual heritage of the body of Christ. The student will be encouraged to deepen and strengthen his/ her relationship and commitment to God through Christ in the context of the Holy Spirit-filled community which is Church. Texts: World Religions, A Voyage of Discovery (St. Mary) Creating a Christian Lifestyle (St. Mary) The first semester of Religion 12 is the study of world religions. The comparative study of major world religions broadens the religious perspective of the student. By investigating other religious beliefs, students experience a universal need of God and witness a parallel expression of worship.
The second semester of Religion 12 is the study of Christian lifestyles. Students will have a clearer understanding of four Christian lifestyles - single life, married life, religious life, and the ordained ministry. As students consider the developmental tasks of your adulthood and the four-lifestyle paths, they will examine lifestyle issues and choices in light of the Gospel and Christian tradition.
