Title: Understanding the Hebrew Scriptures & Catholic Christianity
Grade: 9 Semester: Full Year Course Credit: 1
Texts: Written in our Hearts: Old Testament Story of God's Love (St. Mary) Light of Christ: Overview of the Catholic Faith (Harcourt) The New American Bible
This course is divided into two sections, each comprising one semester. The first part is an overview of the Old Testament and its relevance for our Christian Faith. The second part is an overview of Catholic Christianity, with special emphasis on the Nicean Creed. Together, the two themes will help students deepen their under- standing of God as revealed in the two main sources of Catholic theology: Scripture and Tradition. Moreover, through personal reflection and application of the Scriptures and the Creedal Statements to their own lives, students will be able to explore and deepen their own faith from a more mature faith perspective. Hence students will not only come to know more about God, but will also come to know God more intimately as they engage in the task of theology, that is "faith seeking understanding."
