Founded in 1870 by the Sisters of Mercy, St. Joseph Catholic School is a coeducational college preparatory high school and middle school serving students in grades 7-12 in the Diocese of Jackson.  St. Joseph Catholic School is a diverse community of learners committed to Gospel values as taught by Jesus Christ and to academic excellence. Rooted in the rich educational traditions of the Sisters of Mercy and the Congregation of Christian Brothers, our school prepares students to be independent thinkers and responsible leaders in the service of others.  We dedicate ourselves to the ideals of Catholic Education, and we strive to awaken the minds and spirits of our students to the appreciation of the beauty of creation, the dignity of life, and the demands of justice. (St. Joseph Catholic School Mission Statement)

St. Joseph Catholic School is accredited by AdvancEd/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and by the Mississippi State Department of Education.  The school is a member of the College Board and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and adheres to Principles of Good Practice.  The school has an enrollment of four hundred and fifty (grades 7-12) and a faculty of fifty-seven.  The curriculum is varied, challenging and emphasizes core courses.  The curriculum also features Advanced Placement and Honors courses.  In addition to academic excellence, students are encouraged to be motivated and constructive members of church and community through a required Gospel Service Program.

There are presently eighty-six students in the senior class.  One hundred percent of St. Joseph Catholic School graduates continue their education, with approximately ninety percent attending four-year colleges and universities and approximately ten percent attending two-year colleges.  In this year’s senior class (Class of 2014) one student has been recognized by the National Merit Corporation.  To date, National Merit has recognized a total of thirty-three St. Joseph Catholic School students from the last fourteen graduating classes. From the Class of 2013, Advanced Placement has recognized two students as AP Scholars, one as an AP Scholar with Honor and one student as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Forty students from the class of 2013 received 129 scholarships, totaling over $2.5 million. The accumulated scholarships for the last fourteen graduating classes total $50.4 million.

Students at St. Joseph Catholic School are in a competitive, college preparatory environment.  They follow an eight-period, rotating schedule.  The classes are sixty-five minutes in length.  Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated on a four-point scale using all graded subjects.  St. Joseph Catholic School does not rank students.  The following information should be taken into consideration when evaluating a St. Joseph Catholic School college applicant.
